Hello,
I am a woodcarver and my name is Terri Ramsey. Those first four words
just gave you my reason for being on this page of our clubs web site.
As a Mom of two grown women and a Grandmother of one precious grandson
Jack, age 3, I am neither very young nor quite an antique. I started carving
when the nest was empty and for each day that I can do this I count my
blessings.
I am married and have a great husband who has encouraged, supported, and
blackmailed me to do more carvings. Dave and I have been married for 40
years and believe me there is never a dull moment. My husband travels
much of time and I am fortunate to sometimes go with him. When we travel
by car I take along my carving gear and continue carving, leaving more
than a few chips behind.
My start came when I saw a neighbor's carvings. I admired Ruth's pieces
so much that on leaving her house I carried a blank, a knife and a carved
dog to copy. After that came a series of classes with fellow carvers;
Louise Wyckoff, Pat DeAngelis, Dennis Thornton, David Sobol, Pete La Clair,
Harold Enlow, and others. I am constantly looking for patterns to design
new carvings. In 2004 I attended The Chip-a-Away Conference in Canada
and entered the competition, receiving an honorable mention for the penguin
carving featured in one of the pictures below.
I work with knives, chisels, and power tools although the later is limited
to my little studio because of the dust. This year my hope is to spend
more time carving and more importantly learning and passing on my knowledge.
Carving has enriched my life with laughter and friendships that have grown
with each day. Enrich your life and come learn to carve. You too can do
it.
